5 Tons Steerable Magnetic Strip Navigation AGV for Carbon Steel Plate

Production Challenge
In the production workshop of a large machinery manufacturing enterprise, the transportation of carbon steel plates has long relied on the coordinated use of overhead cranes and manual forklifts. Constrained by fixed pathways, the transfer process is cumbersome, with a single trip taking as long as 20 minutes. Additionally, frequent cross-operations pose safety risks.
Solution
Based on the customer’s operational requirements and actual working conditions, we designed and manufactured this 5 tons lithium powered trackless Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV).
The vehicle features a cast steel spliced frame and a customized deck, specifically engineered for heavyduty carbon steel plate transport. Equipped with a steering wheel drive system, it requires no embedded tracks and has no travel distance limitations, allowing it to move freely between workshops and factory areas.
Through a wireless remote control and an intelligent coding control system, operators can remotely and precisely manage the hydraulic lifting deck, enabling autonomous loading and unloading of carbon steel plates. The unit integrates a lithium battery with an intelligent charging station, ensuring rapid charging and reliable endurance. A battery level indicator and an LED display screen provide realtime status updates.

Application
After deployment in the workshop, the AGV follows a preset path to transfer carbon steel plates from the raw material area to the cutting station. The operator uses a wireless remote control to raise/lower the deck and secure the materials, while laser navigation enables automatic obstacle avoidance. The LED screen displays realtime battery status and operating conditions. During continuous operation tests in high temperature zones, the equipment failure rate dropped from an average of five times per month to 0.3 times per month, and the singletrip transport time was reduced from 25 minutes to 8 minutes.
With the introduction of the AGV, manual handling costs have been significantly reduced, safety risks eliminated, site layout constraints overcome, and transport efficiency increased by over 40%. This has enabled intelligent and flexible upgrades to the plant’s logistics operations.
